Discussion Overview: This week you will identify your project’s short-term goal, one short-term outcome, and one long-term outcome. You will also discuss your target population, stakeholders, and your project’s potential impact on healthcare quality. Goals are what you intend to do as your part of your project’s implementation process. Outcomes are what you hope to meet or achieve when you accomplish your project’s goal. Therefore, before you can determine your project outcomes, you need to identify your project’s goal. Think about goals in terms of your change component. Remember, your project goal and outcomes should incorporate a realistic timeframe. please note these are only examples – see below the quiz I did • Example 1: For my capstone project, my goal is to implement an educational inservice on evidence-based hand hygiene for isolation patients to my unit’s nursing and ancillary staff by week 5. • Example 2: For my capstone project, my goal is to draft a revision to our unit’s current nursing orientation policy to include the role of ICU nurse mentors. Nurse mentors will be assigned to any nurse, after unit orientation, without previous critical care experience for one year. I will present the draft revision proposal to leadership for approval and evaluation by week 5. Outcomes refer to what you want your target population to do in response to your change component. Outcomes are both short-term (what will happen before the end of the Capstone course) and long-term (before the end of the first year of the project) in nature and must be measurable. • Example 1: My desired short-term outcome for my education in-service is that my target population (nursing and ancillary staff on my unit) state an increased knowledge about evidence-based hand hygiene of isolation patients by week 7. My desired long-term outcomes are that my unit will have a 95% hand hygiene compliance rate within 6 months. • Example 2: My desired short-term outcome is for leadership to approve the Galen College of Nursing – NSG 4850 Syllabus – Version 10.1 revision to the current nursing orientation policy after the presentation of my draft by week 7. My long-term outcomes are that the creation of the ICU nurse mentor role for nurses with no previous critical care experience will improve will decrease staff turnover rates by 20% in our unit within 6 months post-implementation. Discussion Prompt: Re-state your small-scale change project, and then answer the prompt: • Who is your project’s target population (be specific in role(s) and expected number of individuals)? o Compare and contrast your stakeholders from your target population. o Share one or two examples of how you are planning for stakeholder buy-in of your project. • What is your project’s short-term goal? • Based on your short-term goal, what is your desired short-term and long-term outcome? Problem and Capstone Project This is what my focus is!!!!!!!!!! see below The change component of your project consists of implementing a strategy to address your selected problem or issue. Strategies used in the Capstone course at Galen are educational strategies, policy strategies, protocol strategies, or technology strategies. The Capstone Project requires a minimum of 48 hours to successfully pass the course. Ideally, at least half of this time should be spent in the clinical or field setting with your preceptor. You will spend project time doing activities such as planning, assessment, literature review, coordination, and implementation.Describe a nursing problem or issue at your practicum site that disrupts or impacts daily workflow, processes, or the care of patients and how you discovered the problem exists. Your Answer: Lack of a community resource guide for patients in Seminole County, Florida. We see many homeless, low-income, and uninsured patients in the community, and this community resource guide is needed. I plan to work with churches, health departments, clinics, food banks, and churches, to name a few. Describe the unit, organization, or setting that will serve as the practicum site for completion of your capstone project. Your Answer: Casselberry ER is a free-standing ER. This is a satellite of HCA, Lake Monroe Hospital in Sanford, Florida. Lake Monroe use to be named Central Florida Regional Hospital. Is the practicum site your current place of employment? If no, discuss your plans for practicum site approval. Your Answer: Yes, the practicum site is my current place of employment. I work full-time as a RN in the ER. Please classify your project into one of the following categories. • Education-based change • Policy revision or creation • Protocol development • Technology-related improvement or enhancement Your Answer: My project falls in the education-based change.
