How to write a good topic sentence for a literary analysis essay?

Dear students, the two articles assignment is an exercise to familiarize you with the 10 topics (10 topics can be found in the Module 1 Lesson 2 link titled Essay Topics and Preparing to Write) you will have to choose from for your literary analysis and to introduce you to the Miami Dade College academic database, where you will find articles from two different literary databases to quote from for your literary analysis. You are being asked to find TWO articles from one of the literary databases listed. At this point, you probably have not settled on a topic yet, but you can use any topic, or search about the novel in general to find two articles. I’m just interested in seeing that you were able to locate two articles based on the novel, or a theme from the novel. Once you have read or skimmed the article, you should copy the MLA formatted citation and include that in your submission. I’d prefer to have the MLA citation rather than the link for the article.

If you have any issues with this assignment, you may contact the library and meet online with a tutor to go through the assignment with you to help you find your articles. Here is the link for the Learning Resources Center with information on how to schedule a tutor. https://libraryguides.mdc.edu/MDCTutoring

Here are the directions that you will find in Module 1 Lesson 2 for the assignment.

Take some time now to look back at the topics and guidelines for Essay 1 and search the databases to find articles that you might be able to cite in your paper. To access the MDC library databases:

Go to www.mdc.edu/libraries
Links to an external site.
Links to an external site.just below the search box near the top of the page, and find the link that says “Databases”
Click on that link
Search for articles in the Literature Resources from Gale, the Literary Reference Center Plus, and the JSTOR databases.
NOTE: If at any point during this process, you are asked to log in, use your MDC log-in and password credentials (the same ones you use to log in to Canvas).

Skim through the articles given to you in your search. Decide on at least two articles that you will be able to use to support the points in your paper.
Read the articles carefully, highlighting, annotating, and taking notes.
Once you have decided on two good articles that you can use and cite in your paper, submit the article links (if they come from the Web) or the downloaded article to DropBox A-01: Two Articles for Literary Analysis.
